Welcome to the School
Pike has spent many years learning and demonstrating all that he has learned, despite his school record, which appears very etchy:
In 1979, at age 5, he was enrolled in pre-school at Honeycomb School in Slidell.
He started grade school at Carolyn Park Elementary School in Slidell in 1980, where he showed advanced skills for his age and was eventually placed into the K.E.E.P. program.
In 1983, he was transferred to Abney Elementary School in Slidell to attend for third and the first half of fourth grade.
After transferring back to Carolyn Park, Pike received his elementary diploma in 1985.
Pike's first year in junior high at Slidell Junior High saw a shaky descend to his grades as he suddenly found it difficult to adapt to higher learning.
In 1986, he entered 7th grade no longer in the K.E.E.P. program: it was replaced by Gifted versions of English and Math. Comparably tougher than the classes normally offered to students, along with an unexplainable drop in his interest in school caused an incredible nosedive: The straight-A kid was making C's, and although he tried, his grades never reached what they used to be. The dropoff in performance was due to a lack of interest in school and more interest in doing more "fun" things.
Much to the obvious dismay of his father, these low grades continued on through 8th grade and into what would be four years that Pike would like to forget: 1988 through 1992 in Slidell High School. The puberty-stricken Pike, who had seen his personality take on a "geeky nerd" transformation, acted just like that: a geeky nerd, but without the nerd-like grades. In 1992, the nightmare ended as Pike graduated from Slidell High in the bottom half of his class.
Knowing how much he was wanting to change his academic ways and also with the advice of his father, Pike started his college career in August 1992 as a Computer Science major at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette (back then known as the University of Southwestern Louisiana). The ensuing 2 years at ULL would be nothing more than a carbon copy of the last 6 years: disappointing grades with low interest in school.
After spending 2 years working full-time, Pike returned to ULL in August 1996 with more drive to succeed, but it was a lot easier for him to say that he could change than it was for him to actually change. He didn't change after all. Unbelievably, whereas any other parent would have thrown Pike out of the house, Pike's parents let him stay under one condition: He would have to transfer to Southeastern Louisiana University while living at home, which is what ultimately happened.
Fuming mad at himself, after Pike started his SLU days in August 1997, he took on a whole new attitude towards his academics. He knew how important it was and he knew he had to apply himself instead of using his classic "I'll catch up later" mindstate. The result would be 3 consecutive years on the Dean's List. Unfortunately, due to a mixup in understanding the cirriculum, Pike ended up being 15 credits away from receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the end of the Spring 2000 semester (8 years after starting college). Rather than earn those 15 credits, he dropped out and went on to search for a new life instead. His decision to drop out was contested by friends and family, but Pike stood by his decision.
